The Beatles in Atlanta, Georgia
About North Georgia

Following their fourth (and final live) appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on August 14, 1965 the Beatles kicked off a North American Tour. Toronto, Canada said goodbye to the Fab Four on August 18, 1965 and six hours later they landed at the Atlanta Municipal Airport for the third city and fourth concert in their 10-city tour.

Atlanta mayor Ivan Allen greeted the Beatles with a large entourage including some 150 reporters, many of them from local high school newspapers. Allen then led them to a news conference. Questions centered on marital status and plans, John's girlfriend Jane Asher, who was 19 at the time. When asked about the thrill of having a night club named after him, George Harrison responded "I was until I saw the nightclub."

Following a catered dinner, the Beatles made their way to Atlanta Stadium where they began their show in front of 50,000 fans with a lively version of "Twist and Shout"

Songs in the set were:

Twist and Shout
She's A Woman
I Feel Fine
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
Ticket to Ride
Everybody's Trying to be my Baby
Can't Buy Me Love
Baby's in Black
I Wanna Be Your Man
Hard Day's Night
Help!
I'm Down

From the stadium the Beatles returned to the airport and left for Houston, spending a total of just over 10 hours on the ground in Atlanta, but leaving a lifetime of memories.
